”Step is about deciding who you want to be and making the space in your life to be that person. ALL of us are putting on an act of some sort or another, but I’m inspired by Lizzo and Pete Buttegieg and Puddles the Clown and others whose acts are true to themselves in an emotionally honest and unapologetic way. And it’s OK for that person to change along the way. I’ll be emotionally honest and unapologetic: I love making people party. That’s what this song is about, too… and that’s why we put a sax solo in it.”
