I wrote Ultraviolet at a time in my life where things were still a little unclear for me. And I didn’t know right away what the song was about. That developed over time, and at a certain moment, the true meaning of the song hit me in the face while I was performing it. I’d rather not tell too much about what the song means to me, because I want people to relate and connect to the song in their very own way. All I want to say about Ultraviolet is that it’s about something you know it’s still there, but you are not able to see it anymore – just like ultraviolet. It’s then for you to decide what that ‘something’ is or could be. We hope that the music video will add another dimension to this.
For the music video we decided that we wanted to start off with me without the band. In this case we decided to make this our band-sub-story. The band is still ultraviolet for now: They are there, and you can hear them, you just cannot see them yet. The blacklight on/off scenes are telling the main story. The UV-light shows what is hidden right under my surface. And for the outside scenes we wanted to reflect the distant vibe ultraviolet creates. Being invisible to yourself and to others creates a huge distance. It makes any confrontation impossible. The same confrontation that was in the way when I wrote the song. The reason why it took me so long to figure out the true meaning of it.
At the end of the video I introduce my real self, by putting off my sunglasses. Ready to face everyone, and myself.
