Nicole Sabouné – Must Exit (Skivrecension)

2014 kunde nog inte få en bättre start än med skivan  Must Exit med Nicole Sabouné .
Med singlarna Unseen footage from a funeral , Conquer or suffer samt Win this life bevisar hon redan där att hon lyckats med konststycket att mixa polerad pop med ett smutsigt punkigt sound, kryddat med nostalgin från artisterna som inspirerade många under 70- och 80-talet.
Jag kan liksom inte sluta le åt liknelsen till Billy Idols White wedding när jag hör Unseen footage… eller det grungeigt rockiga i vi mot dom kamplåten Haters don’t dance , eller Another brick in the wall -hyllningen med barnkören i So this is it . Det som är så smart med detta är att det är igenkännande, men inte plagierande. Jag tror att det är det som gör att jag gillar detta så mycket som jag gör. Att produktionen är mer kryddad med nostalgin än att byggd på den. När det sedan visar sig att låtarna är perfekta poplåtar, att Nicole har en fantastisk röst och att det är substans i texterna, det bygger bara på min uppfattning om att hon kommer bli en av årets stora artister!

With the singles Unseen footage from a funeral , Conquer or suffer  and Win this life she showed us she managed mixing polished pop with a dirty punk sound, seasoned with the nostalgia from the artists who inspired many during the 70’s and 80’s.
I just can not stop smiling about the likeness of Billy Idol ’s White Wedding when I hear Unseen footage… or the grounge rock production in the ”us versus them” fight song Haters don’t dance , or the Another brick in the wall tribute of the children’s choir in So this is it . What is so clever about this is that it is recognition, but not plagiarizing. I think that’s what makes me like this as much as I do. That the production is more seasoned with nostalgia than just built around it. When it then turns out that the songs are perfect pop songs, Nicole has an amazing voice and it’s substance in the lyrics, it strikes me that this is going to be one of the greatest artists of the year!
